A Poem About Anxiety

I am the uninvited guest,
an after-party anecdote;
don’t pull me from my solitude

An avalanche of emotions
without warning, leave me breathless
like falling into a crevice

Overjoyed, and then terrified
when all is well, fine, and dandy —
’cause bad things also come in threes

There are days my glass is half-full,
on random days it’s half-empty;
“Stay positive,” they would tell me

But all these are not what they seem —
thought bubbles of unsettling dread,
everything is all in my head.
